Tens of thousands have been left without electricity as high winds from Storm Malik take down power lines and cause structural damage to homes and gardens across the UK

Met Eireann has issued a weather update as Storm Malik passes over Ireland today.

The storm has caused a huge amount of damage to the UK, with one woman tragically losing her life to a fallen tree in the extreme winds. Winds of more than 100mph were reported in Scotland during the height of the storm.

Tens of thousands have been left without electricity as high winds take down power lines and cause structural damage to homes and gardens across the UK. However, the storm has calmed down significantly as it passes over the northwest peak of the island of Ireland.

Met Eireann has issued an update after many may were been kept awake last night by strong winds across the country.

The winds will continue to ease throughout the day, becoming light to moderate in strength by this evening.

However, the meteorological body has issued a new Yellow wind warning for Donegal, Antrim, Down and Derry for both Sunday and Monday as winds continue.

The wind will be strong and gusty for the rest of the country as we move into Sunday, with some outbreaks of light rain and drizzle, before becoming a gale force in northern and northwestern coastal areas.

However, temperatures remain above average for this time of year, with little risk of frost or icy conditions in the coming days.

Rain will become more persistent moving into Monday and Tuesday as Storm Malik ebbs further away from Ireland and towards Denmark.
